Life: Weekend

Somehow, it's already Sunday afternoon - another weekend {almost} gone. And while I'm sad to see it go, I had a great weekend. I lost my voice at a Carrie Underwood concert, watched the game with some pizza and beer, cheered on the Detroit Tigers and spent Saturday night out on the town.

But today, I relax.

Needless to say, it's been yet another busy week. But even in a week of little sleep, high stress and scattered thoughts, it amazes me the effect a great relationship can have on my mood.

As I sit on the couch, wrapped in a blanket, de-stressing from last week and preparing for the next, I can't stop thinking about how lovely love is.

First of all, happy Friday! I love waking up on Friday. It's a great feeling to know that it's the end of the week, and I have an entire weekend ahead of me. For me, it's the little things in life.

I'm loving this cooler weather, and it's making me crave lots of layers, wool socks, messy updo's and endless cups of coffee.

Life: Crazy Life

MY DEEPEST APOLOGIES. Even though it's been four entire months since graduation, my weeks continue to get busier and busier. My calendar is packed tight with work, appointments, meetings, get-togethers and everything in-between. And somewhere in there, I try to get some sleep.

And my next week won't be any less busy. With an upcoming freelance article due ASAP, I apologize in advance for my irregular blog postings. But somehow, in the midst of all that craziness, I still managed to take a few Instagram photos. 

In the past week, Jack turned 23 (oldie.) We went out for drinks, ate lots of cake and planned our trip to Wisconsin for the Packers vs. Lions game. That handsome guy made me breakfast, too. We went canoeing and I obsessed over anchor boxer briefs. I admired this beautiful city, got my dance on at a wedding and bought some new fall shoes.

Style: Hello, Gorgeous

It's always been important to me to have role models. From style to philanthropy and even attitude, I've always looked up to a few very specific women. My beautiful mother, Princess Diana, Gwyneth Paltrow and Meryl Streep, just to name a few. And a newcomer to my list? Sophia Bush.

Obviously I loved her on One Tree Hill {okay, let's not pretend you haven't seen it} she has blossomed into a smart, stylish young woman who is big on philanthropy and making a difference. And after seeing her photo spread on refinery29 today, I was {and still am} hooked. Not only is she beautiful, she's an interior design and style maven who's definitely going places. And I can't wait to watch what she does next.

Life: Goings On

It's honestly amazing the things you {don't} accomplish in a short week. Apparently, my mind is still in the wilderness after my camping weekend - it appears as though I've forgotten what Instagram is.

This last week, I went camping, grilled salmon over the fire, slept in a tent (which turned into a sauna in the morning) and ate lots of fruits and veggies. I canoed seven miles against the wind in that lake you see below and even went cliff jumping (such a rush - MUST.DO.AGAIN.SOON.) I made the one dish I could make in my sleep (pico de gallo) and made a summery birthday cake for Jack's mom. I day dreamed about my handsome black lab Boone and jumped for joy when my 'backyard' tree changed colors. I went thrifting (more on that later), prepped for Jack's 23rd (more on that later, too) and died laughing at the coaster below. All in all, good week.

For next week - remembering to Instagram is a must. It's a good thing I have a fun filled weekend ahead of me! Happy {almost} weekend!

Style: Autumn Essentials

Hellooooo Minneapolis, fall is just around the corner! Have you looked at the weather forecast lately? This Friday, temperatures in Minneapolis will be in the '60s! I know there will still be a few warm days left before autumn officially begins, but it's clearer than ever that fall is on its way!

And that means my wardrobe is in need of a few fall additions.

What's nice about autumn is that it only takes a few new (and inexpensive) pieces to update your wardrobe for the new season. As a girl on a budget, these items are not only stylish and perfect for the changing season, they're affordable!

Life: Birthday Boy

I love birthdays. Not just my own either - any reason to eat cake, have a few drinks and celebrate is A-OK in my book. And this weekend, Jack turns 23! Time to celebrate!

To Jack, his birthday means one thing - food. The only thing he asked for this year? Spaghetti and meat balls, french fries and chocolate cake. A Guinness would be nice, too. And sleeping in.

While he's fine with a home-cooked dinner, a little bit of relaxation and no presents, I have a few surprises up my sleeve. AND IT'S KILLING ME! Ask my mom, I am the WORST when it comes to keeping secrets...it's truly amazing I've kept Jack's birthday presents a secret for this long!
