FAQ

When did you start Mountain Shadow Morning?
Mountain Shadow Morning originally started as Twentyapolis, which I created in April 2012. Twentyapolis was a great way for me to continue writing after college while navigating post-grad life and growing as a woman and a writer. After years of  learning and growing, Mountain Shadow Morning naturally emerged, focused on health and fitness, travel, yoga and all things DIY.

Why did you decide to start a blog?
I wanted an outlet where I could express my love of style, DIY and writing. I've always loved writing and wanted to find a way to continue to do so after college, and blogging seemed like the perfect fit.

How did you come up with the name?
It wasn't easy! Coming up with both blog names was the most difficult part. For Twentyapolis, I wanted to think of a name that would completely encompass what the blog would be about - life, style, design, fashion, travel, health and fitness and my life in Minneapolis. One day Twentyapolis came to mind, and it seemed like a great fit.

As my blog evolved and I aged closer and closer to 30 (yes, I said it), I wanted my blog name to change and evolve with me. As I grew, delved deeper into my hobbies and really honed in on what was important to me, Twentyapolis began to evolve with me. With content focusing on DIY, sustainability, travel, the outdoors, healthy foods and overall wellness, I was inspired by my parents and our cabin. My parents have always been sustainable do-it-yourself-ers, and we spent much of my childhood doing just that at our cabin on Mountain Shadow Lane. And just like that, Mountain Shadow Morning was born.

Do you blog full time?
No, I work as a yoga teacher and manager and freelance occasionally. I also work at a local brewery in Minneapolis. I blog in my free time, at nights and on the weekends.

Where do you get your blogging inspiration from?
Everywhere and everything! But mostly my desire to try and test new things.

Do you guest post on other blogs?
Yes I do. If you're interested, I'd love to chat!

How many hours each week do you spend blogging?
It varies from week to week - some weeks I have more time to spend, and some weeks less. It averages somewhere between 10 - 15 hours.

What do you do in your spare time?
I love being outside, traveling, cooking, walks with my pup, practicing yoga and exploring this beautiful city.

  1. Hi Courtney,
Yes, a great name for your website (and cute dog). Anyway, greetings… if it interests you and if there’s any chance you’d review it or mention it in your blog, I’d love to send you a free copy of my book Universal Spiritual Philosophy and Practice: an Informal Textbook for Discerning Seekers. Lots of info on philosophical aspects of yoga. 200 pages, 48 illustrations, word-balloons for lively reading. Read more about it at davidlowmsphd.com. Thanks and blessings,
    David Low
