Fit: Yogi Favorites

I'm so happy that it's Friday you guys! I was afraid this week would drag by, but surprisingly, it went by unbelievably fast for me. I think my regular yoga practice is the reason for that!

Now that my Lasik surgery is completely done (and I'm glasses free), I was able to start practicing yoga again regularly this week. If we're being honest, I always thought morning workouts would be the best time for me to work out. I'm a morning person, so morning workouts should naturally be my thing, right? Wrong.

After trying a few morning yoga sessions and discovering that is NOT my most flexible and/or most awake time of day, I started going to class right after work (literally, from work to class). By doing so, I really don't have an excuse to not go - my bags are packed and there's a class right as I'm finishing up with work. Not to mention, I feel I'm at my most flexible and most alert right after work. And going home and relaxing all night long after a hard workout isn't bad either!

Practicing yoga 5-6 times a week (my current goal) requires some serious gear and commitment. Don't be fooled by the whole barefoot on a mat thing - if there's one thing I've learned from yoga, it's that having the right gear can make all the difference.

I didn't purchase all of my yoga gear at once (thank goodness, otherwise this girl would be broke), but over time, I have accumulated my favorites. While some pieces are expensive, most are actually really affordable. Yet another reason I love yoga!
First and foremost, your mat. I'm currently using the Honeydew Mat by Gaiam (you can purchase this at Target). It's thicker, which I appreciate, especially for inversions. Plus, I scored mine for around $30. I'll need to upgrade eventually, but for my daily studio use, this thing is perfect.

I do hot yoga at Corepower Yoga, so my second most important staple is my towel mat. The Yogitoes Skidless Mat is honestly a gift from heaven, I'm sure of it. It clings to my mat and gives me extra grip, even when things get sweaty (TMI?). While they aren't the cheapest things to buy, they're worth the investment in my opinion, and are easily washable. A huge bonus!

For my gym bag, I chose a Gaiam bag from Target. Super simple, inexpensive and holds everything I need it to. Plus, it has bungee straps on the bottom as a holder for your mat. I bought this bag on impulse before I was really into yoga, but I'm glad I did! A few things I always carry in my bag are a towel (textured towels from Target are my favorite), a snack (I'm a sucker for Kashi products, especially if they're made with chocolate), and my Lululemon Bang Buster Headband. That thing is my life saver in hot yoga classes!

When it comes to yoga clothes, it's easy to fall in love with Lululemon gear (hello, everything is so cute!) But the majority of my yoga investment goes toward my membership at Corepower, so lately I've been working to find quality yoga gear at affordable prices elsewhere. Let me tell you, I've been pleasantly surprised! My all-time favorite yoga pants (see below) are compression pants from Old Navy, and are a STEAL at less than $30. I'm still on the hunt for a few affordable tops, and I'll post links when I do!

While it's my goal to get to the studio 5-6 times a week, I'm realistic in that hitting the studio that often every single isn't realistic at all. But that's not an excuse for me to be lazy. To keep practicing on days where I'm not able to make it to the gym, I rely on my Corepower Yoga Calorie Blast Yoga DVD and Voluspa candles. While I'm not at the studio, I'm really not missing any classes at all, and trust me, you can do this anywhere (trust me - two of my coworkers piled into my hotel room on a recent work trip to practice with me one morning before an event. What troopers!)

While these are just a few of my favorites, I'd love to hear yours! What do you recommend?

Namaste, gems.

Style: Girl in Green

The happiest of Mondays, loves. I don't know about you, but I'm hoping this week breezes by. Jack and I have big plans for this weekend (football games and Halloween festivities), so I'm keeping an upbeat attitude this week, in hopes that all my good karma (and cheerful Monday mood) will help the week fly by!

But let's not focus on Monday - how was your weekend? Ours came and went way to fast. But between cleaning, grocery shopping, sipping cocktails for Girls Night Out (with one of my best gals, Sarah of Run Shop Eat Repeat), I did find some time to snap photos for an outfit post!

On Saturday, we met up with friends for happy hour and sushi. As it's finally getting cooler here in Minneapolis, a sweater, my favorite fall coat and knee-high boots were a necessity for a rainy little evening in Uptown.

One of my favorite parts of any new season is rediscovering my wardrobe. That moss colored sweater you see below? Completely forgot I owned it, and I can't wait to wear it again! I love when that happens. But on that note, I do think a little shopping trip would do my closet some good...Stay tuned!

Style: The Sick Day

I love fall, but oh boy, do I hate colds.

Yesterday morning (and this morning, who are we kidding) I woke up with a bit of a cold. Not the "I can't get out of bed at all because I'm dying" cold, but the "I can barely make it out of bed and can barely hold my head up" kind. With a calendar booked full of meetings and projects, I got my bum out of bed and headed to work.

I didn't look my greatest (the no makeup due to my Lasik didn't help my look either), but what can I say, I made it to work!

Lots of hot tea and Airborne for me today, loves. And maybe some hot yoga to clear my mind and senses.

Have a great day! xo,
C

Life: Sunday Afternoons

There's just something about Sunday afternoons.

Sometimes, Sunday afternoons are relaxing (my favorite way to spend a Sunday). But sometimes, only sometimes, they're for being insanely productive. Yesterday was one of those Sundays.

I woke up thinking I might just stay in bed all day (Lasik surgery is a pretty good excuse for that). But after running to Target to grab a few things, my laziness was gone, and I was determined to make Sunday a productive day. And goodness did I.

After making buffalo chicken dip and watching football with some great friends, Jack and I hit the kitchen (or mostly, I hit the kitchen). A few hours, a chocolate cake, homemade soup, a carved pumpkin and roasted pumpkin seeds later, we cleaned up the kitchen and called it a night. Things are definitely starting to feel like fall in our house!

How was your Sunday?

Style: Good to See You

Literally and figuratively, the title of this post captures everything I'm thinking lately. First and foremost, it is so good to see you! It's been far too long since my last post - trust me, just a few more days and I'll be back to posting regularly, I promise!

But also, it's literally so good to see you. On Friday afternoon, I had Lasik surgery, so I can literally see you 20/20 now, without glasses or contacts! In fifth grade, I was told I needed my first pair of glasses, which at the time I thought was fabulous. More than 13 years later, the novelty of glasses and contacts has completely worn off, and I was ready to kick them to the curb. I had been considering Lasik for quite some time now, and finally pulled the trigger and scheduled the procedure. While I was watery-eyed and and groggy for the first 24 hours, I'm feeling fantastic, and am so excited to see!

Even though my eyesight has improved, being able to not see so well for a few hours after the surgery reminded me how important eyewear is (not to mention, I was wearing a pair of sexy surgery glasses for the first 16 hours or so). So today's post is all about sunglasses. And yes, even though it's fall and winter is looming, eyewear is important! So treat yourself to a fabulous new pair (a GOOD pair with UV protection and polarization)!

See you soon, loves.

Life: Fall in Wisconsin

In my opinion, the weekends always end far too soon.

Last weekend, Jack and I headed home to Wisconsin for the weekend for some family time, football, the great outdoors and the Green Bay Packers (and that handsome little black lab). While Saturday was a little drizzly, the temperatures were beautiful (we even felt hot on Sunday at the game - very rare for October), and the company was superb. I love and miss my family every day, and being able to spend time with them, even if only for a few days, is worth the long drive and sleepy Monday mornings they bring.

Wisconsin, I miss you and your bright colors already. But Minnesota, we've got quite an exceptional fall ahead of us.

See you soon, family!

Style: Sweater Days

It was a cool, rainy little day in Minneapolis, yesterday.

It was one of those days where you woke up in the morning and just knew you should stay in bed. That it would be dark out all day, like the sun would never really rise. The kind of day where it would rain, all day, and you'd even develop a bit of a headache in the middle of the day due to the rain and the presence of very cool weather. Let me tell you, Thursday was one of those days. So while I wanted to stay in my pajamas all day, I knew that wasn't an option. My tradeoff was a sweater instead.

And after a day like that, I'm pretty happy that today is Friday, and that I'll be spending all weekend with my family in Wisconsin. Family time, football games, drinks, cheese, the cutest black lab you've ever seen and the Green Bay Packers. Wisconsin, here we come!

Have a great weekend, loves.

Style: Denim Darling

While we were in NYC last week, we just had to make the obligatory stop at Tiffany & Co. for breakfast (i.e. I forced Jack to tag along with me). I know it sounds cheesy, but there's just something about Breakfast at Tiffany's. Our hotel was only a few blocks away, so I couldn't not stop for breakfast.

Breakfast at Tiffany's was our first stop on our long day of "living like the locals" (i.e. sightseeing), so I needed an outfit that was both cute and casual for wherever our adventures took us. And with the gorgeous fall weather in the upper 60s and lower 70s, I knew a good pair of walking boots, denim and scarf were the way to go.

Not to mention, I was highly caffeinated - always a bonus.
